Woodlanders

A Shopify storefront where a specialty nursery's rare catalog is finally easy to search and buy

2025Home & Garden

The brief

Woodlanders grows plants most nurseries have never carried, for gardeners who've been hunting them for years. The catalog was the treasure and the obstacle: thousands of rare species, impossible to browse. We designed and built a Shopify store that puts the collection in order — search and filtering that speak a gardener's language, custom templates that give every species its field notes, and an editorial calm that suits a nursery with this much patience.

The storefront

A botanical garden with a checkout

The storefront treats the collection like the rarity it is: unhurried photography, an editorial pace, and a large catalog held in strict order underneath. Collections gather species the way a good garden plan would, and drops introduce new arrivals to the collectors who watch for them. It reads like a nursery that knows exactly what it has.

The craft

Every species gets its field notes

Rare plants come with questions — hardiness, light, soil, size at maturity — and each product page answers them like a botanist would: custom templates with the growing notes where the doubts live, options that read cleanly, and back in stock notices for the species that vanish in a weekend. Multi-currency pricing serves the collectors ordering from abroad.

Hunted from the garden, phone in hand

Gardeners shop standing in the bed they're planting, so the mobile store works where the dirt is: search that gets to a species in seconds, filters that narrow by what a spot needs, and product pages whose growing notes read without zooming. The rare-plant hunt used to mean phone calls; now it fits in a pocket.

The system

Order that scales with the seedlings

A catalog this size stays useful only if every page follows the same rules, so the store holds one register throughout: botanical photography, consistent field notes, and layouts that treat a common fern and a one-of-a-kind magnolia with the same care. As the collection grows, the system absorbs it without a redesign.

Customers used to call because the website couldn't find what we grow. Now the search knows the collection better than our phone line ever did.

Where it landed

Woodlanders now sells its collection from a storefront worthy of it: the rare catalog is finally searchable, every species carries its growing notes, and collectors around the world order in their own currency. The nursery runs new arrivals and drops itself, and the store keeps the order as the greenhouse keeps growing.
