The App Stack a Serious Shopify Store Actually Needs

More apps is not more capability, it is more code on every page load. Here is the lean stack we install across the stores we build, and what each piece is for.

App bloat is the silent store killer

Every app injects scripts, and most of them load on every page whether they are used or not. We regularly audit stores running forty apps where fewer than fifteen do anything. The result is a slow store, a fragile theme, and a monthly bill nobody remembers agreeing to.

The goal is not more tools. It is one well-chosen tool per job, integrated properly.

Email and SMS: Klaviyo

Klaviyo is the retention engine for DTC on Shopify. Flows for welcome, abandoned checkout, post-purchase, and winback typically produce a fifth or more of store revenue once they are tuned. The integration matters as much as the tool: clean event data in, segmented flows out.

Reviews: Judge.me or Yotpo

Social proof near the buy button is one of the most reliable conversion levers that exists. Judge.me is lean and excellent for most stores. Yotpo adds loyalty and UGC when a brand is ready for a bigger retention program. Pick one, wire its schema markup correctly, and your stars show up in Google results too.

Subscriptions and upsells: Recharge and Rebuy

If your product is consumable, Recharge turns one-time buyers into recurring revenue. Rebuy handles intelligent upsells and cross-sells in cart and checkout, where a few percentage points of average order value compound into serious money.

Support and returns: Gorgias and Loop

Gorgias puts every channel in one inbox with the order data next to the conversation, which is the difference between support that resolves and support that escalates. Loop makes returns and exchanges self-serve, which quietly protects revenue by converting refunds into exchanges.

Measurement: GA4 done properly

Half the stores we audit have analytics that double-count, miss checkout steps, or were never verified after setup. GA4 with server-side tracking, verified events, and honest attribution is the foundation every other decision rests on.

We have integrated 60+ apps across the stores we build. The stack above covers most brands. Everything else should have to argue its way onto your store, one script at a time.
